The next PTA General Membership meeting
is on January 12, 2012

Please join us on Thursday, January 12, 2012 when Leon Botstein, president of Bard College, will be our guest speaker for the evening.  Dr. Botstein will speak about Bard’s ongoing commitment to the BHSEC schools.
There will be a Question and Answer session following President Botstein’s remarks.

The meeting begins at 6:30p.m., at BHSEC Manhattan, 525 East Houston Street.

Leon Botstein has been president of Bard College in New York since 1975.  He is also music director and principal conductor of the American Symphony Orchestra since 1992.  He is also Music Director and Conductor Laureate of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra since 2003.  He is also the founder and co-artistic director of the Bard Music Festival, now in its 22nd year.

About Us

Overview

PTA Membership
Membership in the the Bard High School Parent Teacher Association (BHSEC PTA) is free and automatic for every parent or guardian, and every teacher at the School.
The BHSEC PTA Executive Board members are parent volunteers elected yearly in the spring, and work with the School community to support the vision of the school.
PTA Meetings
PTA General Meetings are held 10 times a year usually on second or third Thursday of the month with actual dates published in advance in the school online calendar.  Meetings are open to all, and are always an excellent way to keep up with what’s happening, and to benefit from an engaging talk by a guest speaker or panel.  We strive to balance how much information to send via  emails so as not to clutter your inbox, so we highly recommend your attendance at the monthly meeting in order to have an ongoing and productive dialogue with our members.
Our principal, Michael Lerner, typically speaks at every meeting and there is no better way to keep informed about your child’s education than by hearing him speak.
If a parent has a specific issue that he or she would like discussed at a General Meeting, please inform the PTA President or Secretary before the meeting, so that the issue may be placed on the agenda.

PTA Budget
Each summer, the PTA Executive Board finance committee reviews the expenses of the previous school year, determines the anticipated expenses of the upcoming school year, and meets with the Principal to establish a budget for the coming year. The PTA supplement the costs that are not covered in the allotment given to the school by the Department of Education, Bard College and other funding sources.  Once approved by the Executive Board, the budget is presented to the general membership at the first general PTA meeting of the school year. A majority of those attending must approve the budget. Once the budget is approved, parents have made a commitment to raising the funds, whether by personal donations or fundraising initiatives.
