Philosophy
Philosophy club offers the opportunity to practice philosophy with fellow students once a week after school. Each week in Philosophy club, a student volunteers beforehand to present a philosophical dilemma for group discussion. Each volunteer researchs a topic of particular interest and, after introducing the issue and background, opens up the issue to the group. Discussion are guided by a student facilitator and assisted by the club advisor, Dr. Matthews. This past year’s discussions have investigated the ethical implications of climate change, the conflict of romantic and universal love, Socratic maieutics, gender politics, and much more.
The aim of discussions is not so much to conclude anything or arrive at an answer but rather to precisely articulate an issue or question and then critically examine the topic.
