A Night at the Kasbah, this year's Benefit Auction for BHSEC, will take place on May 7 at Kush Lounge. To purchase tickets for the auction on-line, follow the instructions below.

Tickets are $40 each if you purchase by April 23rd and $50 each thereafter. You may add an additional donation to your ticket purchase or if you cannot attend, make a donation in lieu of a ticket by using the same button. Our giving categories are as follows:

  • Champion $2500
  • Advocate $1000
  • Partner $500
  • Patron $250
  • Supporter $125
  • Friend $_____

To purchase your tickets, follow these steps:

  1. Tally the total amount of the tickets plus any donation,
  2. EMAIL US the names of the people for whom the tickets will be purchased, and the name of the person on the credit card to be used.
  3. Use the button below to pay the tallied amount to the BHSEC PTA through PayPal (you may pay using a major credit card, or via your own PayPal account):

The Parent Teacher Association

Bird School Welcome to the BHSEC PTA web site. Every BHSEC parent is a member of the BHSEC PTA! Through the PTA, parents share information, questions, answers, and excitement about our children's experiences at BHSEC. We support the school both financially (especially important these days!) and as a parent body committed to BHSEC's extraordinary approach to public secondary education.

This website is under construction, and will soon be replaced by a full-featured site. In the meantime, we encourage you to join the PTA's Yahoo user group. Follow this link to sign up and click on the "Join This Group" button at the top of the page.

Make a Donation

There are two ways to give to BHSEC You can make a contribution to the PTA or to the Friends of BHSEC. Many parents choose to give to both and we hope that more of us will do so. It is up to you to determine what amount you would like to donate to the PTA and/or the Friends of BHSEC, but each donation must be made separately. Both the PTA and Friends of BHSEC are 501(c) (3) corporations and your donations to each are tax deductible (the PTA Tax ID is 81-0612857).

The BHSEC PTA and Friends of BHSEC are hoping each family can consider a contribution to BHSEC of $500 this year, either split between the two groups or to one of them. We recognize, however, that not all families can commit to this, so please choose an amount you are comfortable with. One hundred percent participation by all families, in any amount, is our most important goal. A copy of the letter sent to all BHSEC families can be found here.

The PTA

Donations to the PTA cover a portion of the costs of:
  • Textbooks and supplies;
  • Expenses associated with the College Transfer Office & SAT subsidies;
  • Student programs such as clubs, graduation, athletics, the student newspaper, theater productions and other enrichment programs;
  • Library materials and online resources;
  • Student travel programs and infrastructure improvements (lighting, cafeteria, etc..);
  • PTA funds cannot be used to pay for core curriculum faculty salaries.

Our fundraising goal for the 2008-09 school year is $100,000. This goal represents an increase of 34% over last year’s goal and 16% over actual funds raised. The thermometer to the right shows how we're doing - please help us burst the mercury!

The Friends of BHSEC

Donations to the Friends of BHSEC provide a portion of:
  • Current funding needs including those that cannot be paid for by the PTA such as additional faculty. (Friends of BHSEC and other non-DOE sources fund 6 full time and all adjunct faculty in art, economics, creative writing and dance)
  • The music and theater programs
  • Support staff including the Admissions, College Transfer, Learning Center, and Student Activities professionals
  • The Friends of BHSEC Endowment Fund: 50% of all contributions to the Friends of BHSEC are added to the BHSEC endowment fund, the interest from which is currently sufficient to support one adjunct faculty position. It is crucial that this fund continue to grow in order to underwrite the additional hiring of faculty in the future.

Friends of BHSEC has set a goal to raise $400,000 in 24 months. Raising $200,000 in this academic year represents a 42% increase over funds raised last year. Please help the Friends achieve this goal by donating below.

Matching Gifts: A list of companies with matching gift programs is here. Please check to see if your employer will match your gift. You will need to get the required form from your Human Resources Department and mail it to us at BHSEC PTA, 525 Houston Street, New York, NY 10002. If you donate to both the PTA and the Friends of BHSEC you will need two forms.
