We invite you to contribute your perspective, skill, and/or resources to help make BHSEC Manhattan even stronger for our students.
And to make your own Bard parent experience even better, make sure you have signed up for our PTA newsblasts, look for invitations to upcoming meetings and events, and take advantage of the fun and engaging events we offer to extend the Bard credo of “A Place to Think” to our entire school community.
We have many opportunities for you to get involved with PTA activities this year. Find descriptions of some of these efforts below. We would also like to take the opportunity of our revised website to explore more community-building activities. Your ideas, energy, skills, and time are gratefully appreciated.
The executive board of the PTA is a volunteer organization. Sometimes we run out of time and willing hands. If you have questions or ideas for improvement, please share them with us and please suggest some possible solutions for changes you want. Our email is:

Faculty & Staff Potluck Dinner
The PTA sponsors two faculty dinners every year on the day of the evening parent-teacher conferences. This dinner is VERY much appreciated by our hardworking teachers and staff who cannot easily get dinner between the end of school and the start of evening conferences at 5:30.
This fall the potluck is November 14 at 4:00 pm. We will have a sign up button to send in a dish or to let us know if you can help set up or clean up in early November. Dishes should be brought in to the school the morning of Thursday, November 14 and left with Carol Turitz. Your child should let Carol know if it has to go in the refrigerator. Thank you! We have a good time downstairs setting up and getting the dinner going. Thank you!
Sports Photos
In addition to the events we plan throughout the year, we also would love sports photos for our website so that we can share the accomplishments of our athletes with the school community. Please take a moment to share a few photos of last night’s game with us.
You can send them to our PTA email address. Please put this in the subject line so that we correctly sort the emails: “Sports Photos” Please put the date, match, and other relevant info in a short text with the photos. There are teams for which we have no photos. We would be glad to have photos and information that these teams would like to showcase. Thank you.
The Bard Bash
Our fundraiser this past spring (2019) was a fun, low-key event held on the rooftop of the beautiful Rivington Hotel. Parents, faculty and administration enjoyed the stunning view, great food and drinks.
This year in 2020, we want to build on this spring benefit format to provide a fun, community-building, and financially viable event again. We will need willing hands, ideas, skills, energy, and donations. Please email contact@bhsec1pta.org if you can help.
Bardware
Everyone wants Bardware! Students need to shop during school hours, and parents often buy items when at school events like PTA meetings, parent teacher conferences and student performances. Please contact the PTA to volunteer: contact@bhsec1pta.org. We will train you and pair you with other volunteers for a collaborative team environment.
Other Community-Building Efforts
Do you have some ideas for how we can engage more parents or reach out to more parents who do not have time to come to PTA events? Let us know by email or bring your ideas to a PTA meeting. Thank you!
