Department of Education School Reports

The DoE publishes a wide variety of school specific reports on everything from school attendance, graduation rates, educational progress and performance to budgets and the condition of school buildings. This link, DOE Reports, will take you to all of the current and previous reports, but be sure to scan down the list. There is a huge amount of information all of which is collected in the Chancellor’s effort to measure school performance and hold schools accountable for improvement.

Below are direct links to the most recent reports more commonly used by parents. Note that until mid way through the academic year, most reports except for the CEP and the Learning Environment Survey, are one school year behind the most recently completed year (In Dec 2009, the most recent report will likely be for the school year 2007-2008).

  • Progress Report: Measures student year-to-year progress, compares each school to peer schools, and rewards success in moving all children forward, especially children with the greatest needs.
  • Quality Review: Describes what independent reviewers saw at the school — what life is like there. The report identifies some of the strengths in the school, as well as areas where improvement is needed with suggestions for making improvements.
  • Learning Environment Survey: Provides a view of a school’s learning environment based on responses from parents, teachers, and high school students.
  • All of the DOE data in these and other reports is used by the school, along with other information, to develop BHSEC’s Comphrehensive Educational Plan (CEP). Parents (and faculty and students) have input to the CEP through the School Leadership Team (SLT), although decisions are ultimately made by the Principal. The CEP is the document which outlines the school’s specific, measurable goals for the year.
