PTA Committees: 2009-2010
Architecture – The BHSEC Architecture Committee is a group of professionals who act as advisors to Principal Ray Peterson on matters pertaining to construction and renovation of facilities. Parents serving on the committee usually have expertise in the areas of architecture, school construction, facilities management, and NYC architectural history. New parents with expertise in areas related to architecture, construction, design, landscaping, project management, building management, structural engineering, audio, lighting and electricity, etc. are encouraged to consider joining this very important committee.
Please contact bhsecpta@gmail.com using subject line “Architecture”Arts - If you have an interest in promoting the arts at BHSEC then please join the Arts Committee! Our goal is to ensure that the Arts – Visual and Performance (Dance, Music and Theater) are well supported by the parents and that the opportunities for our children continue to grow and inspire. Whatever your volunteer interest…from a few hours (such as selling or collecting tickets or chaperoning field trips, etc.) to project related (communications, strategy, etc.) we would like to hear from you.
Please contact Christina Wright at cwright750@gmail.com or at 646-242-1016 (cell) for more information. Thanks!Fundraising - No doubt about it. Fundraising takes a lot of hard work and is often challenging, but it can also be a huge amount of fun! As a small school, we need everyone’s help! To volunteer for a specific event planned for this year, go here.
Please contact Eileen McColgan at mccolgane@gmail.com or 212-226-2750.Garden & Yard - Volunteers are responsible for creating and maintaining the beautiful plantings in the yard next to the school. If you have access to plants or want to indulge or develop a green thumb, we can use your help. Click for a garden wish list of “found” and new items needed for the garden.
Please contact Sonia Laudi at soniyard@aol.com.Grant Writing - We need writers, researchers and people with contacts to help us develop as many grants as we can to support the existing programs at BHSEC and to develop new sources of support. Previous grants have funded many of our health/fitness programs, our science equipment, auditorium renovation and student and teacher exchange program with schools in Turkey and China. If you don’t have time to help, but you have contacts in the foundation world, please let us know that as well, as personal contacts will open many doors.
If you can help, please contact bhsecpta@gmail.com with subject line “Grants”.Health and Safety - This is a school committee comprised of administrators, staff, faculty and school security as well as two parent co-representatives. Mike Willner at willner90@msn.com is a parent representative this year and we are looking for another person to join the committee. Monthly meetings are generally in the late morning at the school.
Please contact Eileen McColgan at mccolgane@gmail.com if you are interested in being a parent rep to this committee.Hospitality - (CHAIR/CO-CHAIR NEEDED): This is the committee for those who do not like committees. Instead of meetings, we are in charge of parties. Members of this group are responsible for making sure there are always plenty of drinks, ice, and fabulous food at BHSEC events. What we need: volunteers to organize food donations and help with set up and clean up for a variety of events. We also run the Faculty & Staff Appreciation Dinner at the semi annual Parent Teacher Conferences and the Holiday Party.
Please contact Eileen McColgan at 212-226-2750 or mccolgane@gmail.com.Sports - The Sports Committee supports all of BHSEC’s PSAL teams and sports clubs. We work with Maryah Nardone, BHSEC’s Athletic Director, to further the development of extra-curricular athletic opportunities for our children. The Committee also organizes the annual Sports Awards Banquet in June to recognize our student athletes. The committee generally meets about once a month.
To volunteer or learn more, please contact Co-Chairs Allan Miller at amilleresq@aol.com or Andi Wirz at wizmor4@nyc.rr.com .Hot List
