Current Volunteer Opportunities

Parent volunteering is the core of the PTA. There are many ways to contribute - find a volunteering activity that best suits your availability, skills and interests.

  • Help with Fundraising Events: Fundraising to support BHSEC is one of the PTA’s primary activities. PTA funds support a wide variety of current funding requirements, including textbooks, teacher and library supplies, all student activities and clubs and the College Transfer Office (CTO). In addition, the PTA funds a number of parent education and resource initiatives.
  • Join a Committee: Getting involved with one of our many committees is a great way to meet fellow parents and contribute your talents to a wide range of needs.
  • Organize Faculty and Staff Appreciation Dinner: The PTA traditionally sponsors two dinners per academic year for faculty and staff, on the day of the evening parent-teacher conferences. This dinner is VERY much appreciated by our hardworking teachers/staff who cannot easily get dinner between the end of school and the start of evening conferences at 5:30. Food is both contributed and purchased with monetary donations. A how-to guide is available here to help you, and the organizers of previous dinners are available to consult. But it is time for new people to get involved. This requires a somewhat time intensive commitment over a short period with help from other people.

  • Help with Bardware: Our Bardware Manager, Gennie Perez, will be “graduating” this year so it’s time to get someone else to manage this very profitable fundraising program. Gennie also needs help selling at school events such as PTA meetings, parent teacher conferences and student performances.
Contact Gennie at bhsecpta@gmail.com with subject line “Bardware”
  • Articles for the Website: Writers and/or reporters are always needed for both long and short articles. Since we have no “deadline” on the website you can publish at your own pace. If you’d like to write something but aren’t sure of the subject we can suggest one. Similarly, send us ideas for articles you’d be interested in and we can match it with a writer. Moderate time commitment as you choose.

  • Public Relations: KnowledgeCollege@BHSEC is a new fundraiser for us this year and we hope to attract people from outside the BHSEC community to participate in this community learning event. We need some one with a PR background to guide us through marketing (at minimal cost!) to the non-BHSEC world.

  • Print House: Do you have access to printing, collating, postage resources? The PTA and the school can always use help with our print and mailing needs. This requires contacts more than time.
Contact us at bhsecpta@gmail.com with subject line “Printing”.
